On 19 May 2018, the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took place at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.
2,640 people were invited to watch the wedding from inside the Castle Grounds. Helen and Beverley were two of those people!
They had a superb vantage point to view Princes Harry and William as they walked to the chapel, as well as the other celebrity guests including George and Amal Clooney, Idris Elba, Sarah Ferguson, Serena Williams, and the Beckhams. However they nearly didn’t make it!

Helen explained, “Our taxi kept getting sent in the wrong direction and it was becoming evident that we weren’t going to make it to the Castle before the gates would close. So Hampshire Police drive us up to the Castle in style with blue lights flashing. We’re so grateful to the officers for getting us there on time!  Having gone through security we were disappointed to give up our invitation. However, we were given a Royal Wedding goodie bag to replace the ticket. Some of the goodie bags are now selling on eBay for thousands of pounds!

Although we could not see the chapel entrance we had a good vantage point, with all the guests passing just a few feet away from where we were standing. We never imagined we would be so close. There was a great atmosphere and lots of cheers as the Royals passed by. Apart from the great cheer when Harry and William passed by us the other biggest cheer of the day was for George Clooney, perhaps that reflected the fact that most of the guests were women!

Having been sceptical about going the wedding I am glad I did as it was a unique experience, one that so many people would have liked to have enjoyed. This was evidenced as we travelled back from Windsor with our goodie bag. Seeing the goodie bag prompted people on the train and underground to ask us why we had the bag and on hearing that we were in the grounds they were amazed.
We finished off the day with dinner at Mac and Wild, all I can say is yum yum. I am sure everyone who visits Falls of Shin from next month will have a great eating experience. I definitely recommend the deep-fried Mars Bar sundae, I know it does not sound great but it is soooo good!”

Beverley Hill said, “I, unlike Helen, was super excited to be invited to the Royal Wedding. I knew it was a once in a lifetime experience and felt so honoured to have been invited by Helen, as her plus one. It was a great honour for ourselves in recognition of all the work that the Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust has carried out, over the years, with Helen at the Helm.

There was a fantastic atmosphere, in Windsor, on the day. My personal highlight was receiving a smile from David Beckham and a wave from the new Duchess of Sussex, Meghan, after the wedding. Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, stopped to have a chat with me on her way back to the state apartments. Another highlight of the day’s events was seeing Oprah Winfrey! All of the wedding guests and Royal family were really close to us as they made their way to and from Windsor Chapel. I have so many great memories of this special day that I will carry for the rest of my life.”
