Members of the public from around the United Kingdom have learned that they will be amongst the 2,640 people in the grounds of Windsor Castle on 19th May.
Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle have said they wanted their wedding day to be shaped to allow members of the public to feel part of the celebrations. The couple asked Lord Lieutenants throughout the UK to invite 1,200 people to join the celebrations, including young people who have shown strong leadership, and those who have served their communities.
In Sutherland, the Lord Lieutenant Dr Monica Main has nominated Helen Houston, Development Manager of the Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust to attend the wedding in recognition of her work in the community. Helen’s colleague Beverley Hill, who runs the ‘Keep Active Together’ and ‘Community Food Stop’ projects to promote health and wellbeing will be accompanying her.
Beverley Hill said, “I am delighted to be accompanying Helen to the Royal Wedding. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity and certainly one that I never thought would come my way. I am so pleased that the Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust is being recognised in this way, for everything it has done and will continue to do, in our community.”
Helen added, “It was a real surprise when the Lord Lieutenant contacted me to ask if I would like to attend, but I am honoured that the work of the Trust is being acknowledged. I am delighted to be one of the people representing Sutherland at the celebration. Now I just need to choose my outfit!”
